At the end of each year, we put together a behind the scenes post because we enjoy remembering where we’ve been and what we’ve done that year, but also because it’s fun for people to see how we work as well as the resulting image we got while shooting.

Here’s me shooting the details of Erin & Jeff’s Proximity wedding in February.

The Proximity has a lot of great mirrors.

Higs being a stand-in as I tested out lighting prior to bringing in our couple.

After a long day of having a camera shoved up against his face, Higs’s hair looks ah-mazing.

I shot the photo of Higs on the left while we were waiting for Haley to arrive for her bridals, and realized that it would be a fun shot with her.

I didn’t realize what a ninja Higs was the day we shot Haley’s bridals until I saw all three of these images together.

After squatting to shoot, I looked up and this is what I saw: Higs standing right over top of me. See? Ninja.

Except here. He stepped into my shot. Not-so ninja-like.

After laying on my stomach in the middle of the road to get the shot on the left, I jumped up and Higs startled/photographed me. Nice.

As we talked to people throughout the day, we found out that, ironically enough, Justin’s family is from the town neighboring our hometown back in Pennsylvania. And see the blonde lady in the center? Yeah, we found out that she used to date Higs’s dad. Super-small and strange little world we live in.

Now that wedding season is over and our Saturdays are free, we’ve been taking advantage of the still-warm North Carolina weather with trips to the park and playing outside in the leaves. Love this kiddo!

proximity hotel wedding • • • jessica & justin: part two

Jessica & Justin’s wedding was our last of the year and I couldn’t imagine going out on a higher note. These two were absolutely phenominal to work with from the beginning stages of planning until we hugged them goodbye at the end of the reception. They were both so sweet and kind to us, but were also so obviously and uncontrollably in love. Their Just Married session is not only one of my favorites of the year, but is one of my favorites we’ve ever shot.

Their reception was elegantly decorated in whites, blacks and bright greens.

As a treat for their guests, Jessica & Justin had a table of candy and sweets!

Jessica & Justin were married at The Proximity Hotel on an absolutely gorgeous Fall day. Everything about the day was relaxed, easy-going and fun, which embodies the spirit of Jessica & Justin to a T.

So beautiful!

Justin’s cufflinks were engraved with his initials.

Jessica’s nephews were well-behaved and enjoyed participating in the wedding festivities.

Jessica & Justin opted to do a First Look prior to the ceremony. The Fall colors provided an amazing backdrop for such a sweet moment.

Everyone waited patiently for the ceremony to start.

Since we had Nolan, it’s become sort of a tradition that each Fall we step out from behind the camera and have another photographer document us. The first year, it was Candice & Dan from The Beautiful Mess, and last year it was Kellie Kano of Greensboro. This year, Stacey of Stacey Lynn Photography did an amazing job capturing us and our life as it is at this moment.

Stacey and I met earlier this year and bonded over our love of photograpy (boudoir specifically) and have since become allies in the business, sharing ideas, stories and even shot a few times together. She’s so sweet and incredibly talented. Her fun and energetic personality brings excitement and happiness to anything she does, and not only does she have a killer artistic eye, but she’s mastered being able to document life, emotion and beauty all at the same time.
