rehoboth beach • • • our mini-vaycay

So, even though our trip to Delaware was work-related, we took Nolan with us and our good friend, Jen (aka Aunt Jenny), drove down from Philly to watch him while we shot Deirdre & Jordan’s wedding. It was wonderful to see her and to make a little vacation out of it. Nolan was still a little apprehensive about the ocean, but I must say, he did much better than his first beach experience.

He was much happier when we got away from the water and hung out on the boardwalk. He also had a tooth pop through that weekend, so he was chewing on just about everything.

old salem kids photography • • • matthew & charlie

Why do children have so much energy? Is it because they’re young, carefree and have nothing to worry about? Is it that they just want to learn about anything and everything? Why are they able to run circles around adults, sit down for 0.5 seconds, then do it all over again without blinking?

It’s an understatement to say that brothers Matthew (who is 5) and Charlie (who is 2) are full of energy. They were happy, excited, animated, high-spirited, tireless, vivacious and thrilled to be outside, playing and exploring a new place. Luckily for us, Old Salem has a lot of open fields for them to run in and a lot of cool nooks and crannies for them to check out. And honestly, I had a blast chasing them around and capturing who they are and what they’re like at this age. To me, and hopefully to their parents, looking at these images in 30 years will reflect their personalities much more than if they were looking at boring posed shots from the mall.

Enjoy their happiness and energy — it’s contagious!

sometimes it’s just easier to let him get messy.

He attemps to shovel the food into his mouth with one hand while holding his fork neatly in the other. He’s learning, and I know he’ll get it eventually. He’s messy because he’s figuring it out and enjoying the food. He’s not misbehaving. He’s just trying his hardest to get that food into his mouth the best he can. So, why try to stop it? Sometimes it’s just easier to let him get messy. And man, is he cute.

deirdre & jordan’s beach wedding • • • part two

We love so many of the images from Deirdre & Jordan’s wedding that we decided to break it up into two posts. We especially love the ones from their “just married” session, which we shot immediately following the ceremony. Deirdre & Jordan collaborated with us a lot when it came to figuring out the schedule of their day and we were in heaven when they graciously allotted us an entire hour for their “just married” session. It allowed us to shoot at a few different spots that Higs & I had been eyeing up for them without feeling rushed and has, in return, provided Deridre & Jordan with a wide variety of images from their day.

The first place we stopped was this empty, wide-open sandy/grassy area just up the beach from where they were married. It provided a beautiful, unique backdrop and almost made me feel like we were in Arizona or some place out west. Even though I’ve never been there, that’s where I felt like we were.

I love the candidness (is that a word?) of her happiness.

We found a random cassette tape hanging out on the beach with us. Who knows how long that had been there. Or what was on it…

Just across the street were these train tracks and we love Deirdre & Jordan for being totally up for it.

Then we headed to the Nassau Valley Vineyards, which was where they held their reception. Love this one!

It was really getting chilly outside, so we utilized the Vineyard’s wine cellar to a) warm up, and b) mix things up a bit with the dramatic low lighting it provided.

After warming up, we headed back outside and the light could have not been more perfect. We were in heaven and I loooove how romantic these images are!

Love + sunflare + slight breeze = perfection!

Their reception was intimate, classy and full of laughter.

The toasts that were given by Deirdre’s stepdad…

…Keren…

…and Jordan’s best man had us all cracking up!

Deirdre & Jordan, thank you so much for letting us document your beautiful day. It was so wonderful to see you and your family again! Congratulations!

deirdre & jordan’s beach wedding • • • part one

Jordan met Deirdre because he was friends with her older brother. But things changed when Jordan – oops! – fell in love with his best friends little sister! At first, they tried to keep it under wraps and conveniently hung out with the same crowd so they could spend more time together without being suspicious. But it eventually came out and Jordan proposed to Deirdre at sunset on the beach in Lewes, DE last summer.

Their wedding day emulated their personalities: casual, comfortable and relaxed. They said “I do” last weekend in the same spot where they were engaged and were surrounded by their immediate family and a few of their closest friends in an intimate ceremony on the beach.

Deirdre wore her grandmother’s earrings and necklace, which counted as her something borrowed, something old, and something blue.

Deirdre’s sister, Keren, served as her matron of honor. You might remember Keren from when we photographed her wedding to Robbie last summer.

I love this image of Keren and her cute preggo belly helping Deirdre button her dress.

Deridre was such a stunning bride. It looks like she just stepped out of a J.Crew catalog!

Yea, WOW!

Deirdre’s sister, Serah, did a fantastic job creating the floral arrangements.

Deirdre’s nieces were the “flowergirls,” and carried buckets of seashells to scatter down the sandy aisle.

Jordan and his groomsmen dressed casually and everyone wore Converse All Stars.

It’s go-time!

I love this shot that Higs got of Jordan’s face when he saw Deirdre coming down the aisle.

The ceremony on the beach was beautiful, but it was very windy!

Stay tuned for part II of Deirdre & Jordan’s wedding to see their Just Married session and reception images!!
